THE CHALLENGE
An organization doing vital work, without the presence to show for it.
The Africadian Empowerment Academy has been doing important work within Nova Scotia’s communities of African descent for years. But its communications infrastructure had not kept pace with its mission. The previous website was difficult to navigate, structurally unsound, and unable to tell AEA’s story with the clarity and dignity the organization deserved.
Beyond the website, AEA’s broader communications systems, from internal workflows to digital platforms, needed a comprehensive overhaul. The organization needed a strategic partner who understood not just the technical gaps, but the cultural weight of getting this right.
THE STRATEGY
Start with the infrastructure. Let the story follow.
Joyeoux came in as Operations and Communications Executive, taking a whole-organization view rather than treating the website as an isolated project. Before any design or content work began, we conducted a full audit of the existing digital presence to diagnose what was broken and why.
The audit surfaced a critical technical issue: DNS misconfiguration had taken the website offline and disrupted the organization’s Google Workspace email services. We resolved this first, stabilizing the foundation before building on it.
From there, we developed new website goals, defined four distinct user personas, youth, learners, partners, and donors, and built a site architecture designed around their different needs and journeys. Content was rewritten with a clear focus: impact, storytelling, accessibility, and calls to action that actually moved people to enroll, partner, or donate.
Alongside the digital work, Joyeoux produced video content, established social media platforms, created modern internal communication workflows, and delivered staff and Board training to ensure the organization could sustain what was built.
THE OUTCOME
A professional digital presence built to last.
AEA emerged from this engagement with a rebuilt website, functional digital infrastructure, active social platforms, and a team with the skills to maintain and grow their communications independently. The technical setup and overall website strategy were completed in full.
More than deliverables, the engagement gave AEA the kind of presence its mission had always deserved, one built with cultural understanding, strategic discipline, and genuine care for the community at its center.
